This year sees more acts take to our stages than ever before for your entertainment. From breakthrough indie acts to DJ duos and light shows to international Afrobeats, this year’s Ball really has it all.

As well as our main stage acts, we have a dazzling array of surprises on the evening, as well as some top notch food to keep you going all the way through the night… see below for a sneak peek at what’s in store.


In keeping with the name, Hull Pie is all about the making of exceedingly good pies, and boy, are they popular! Recent years have seen the local lads and lasses win top awards at The Great British Pie Awards, Remarkable Hull & East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTA) and the Made In Hull Awards, as well as receiving rave reviews in press, including the Guardian, who praised their tempting range of “dangerously delicious pastry-wrapped items”- not that we needed to tell you that, their pies have been a Sanctuary snack of choice all year!

Tick tock – it’s going to be Prosecco O’Clock at this year’s End of Year Ball! A bespoke Italian Ape’ bar will be serving chilled bubbles on tap with refreshing Prosecco Frizzante via the barrel. Fizz–tastic Prosecco cocktails can also be made to order for fans of sparkling wine with an added twist! The owner of Prosecco O’Clock is Dr Lisa Smith (Chemistry PhD from the University of Hull). We promote drinking responsibly from our bar and at all of our events.

Standard entry for non-infinity members

Tickets can be bought online at hullstudent.com/events and are priced at £29.99. You will need to follow the link to log in and purchase your ticket. Once you have been through the transaction process and paid for your ticket, you will be sent an email confirmation of the purchase. You will be given a transaction number or order number which you will need to quote to claim your ticket. Tickets must be collected from reception no later than 4pm Friday 2nd June. You will also need to present your student ID card.

Alternatively, tickets can also be bought at the Hull University Union reception desk in Student Central Monday – Friday between the hours 9am-4.30pm.

Please note: No wristbands will be issued this year.

You will need to collect your ticket and bring this with you to the event entrance on 3rd June 2017.


Entry for infinity members

Infinity members can come to the Hull University Union reception desk within Student Central to collect their free ticket. You will need to bring with you your student ID card in order to collect your ticket.


  • The Pigeon Detectives
    The Pigeon Detectives

    Platinum-selling indie rock band, The Pigeon Detectives recently released their latest album “Broken Glances” and are joining the line up on the Indie Stage. Formed in 2002, The Yorkshire band enjoyed a meteoric rise starting in Leeds, and growing into the UK Music scene rapidly with their first record ‘Wait for Me’ going on to sell over half a million records and resulting in headlines at London’s Alexandra Palace and the Millennium Square Arena.

    ‘Broken Glances’ follows platinum selling debut record ‘Wait for Me’ (charted at number 3 in the UK album chart), gold selling ‘Emergency’. The band remain one of the best live indie rock bands on the circuit with a string of gigs festivals lined up throughout 2017.

  • Fuse ODG
    Fuse ODG

    Fuse ODG is one of the most exciting performers in the UK, leading the way Afrobeat scene and paving the way for other breakthrough artists. Following the success of his debut single, Azonto, Fuse’s second big single, Antenna, accumulated almost 2 million views on YouTube, attracting the attention of hip-hop legend Wyclef Jean.

    This collaboration catapulted Fuse to another dimension: Antenna ft Wyclef Jean spent 13 weeks in the UK Top 40, peaking at 7, while the video has over 7 million YouTube views. It’s also the one of the highest selling urban records of the year. Azonto and Antenna both went to number 1 in the iTunes World Chart as independently-released singles – and have been playlisted across the board on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Capital and Kiss.

    With his third single ‘Million Pound Girl’ debuting at no.5 in the UK charts, and a debut album in the works for 2014, featuring more collaborations with the likes of Wyclef and Sean Paul amongst others, and a host of new hits, Fuse ODG is the one to watch right now- and you can do just that in the Grand Ballroom.

    Lucy Spraggan

    Ever since her unforgettable first audition on The X Factor in 2012, Lucy has continued to make waves in the UK industry, with her inimitable mix of catchy riffs and poignant lyrics mean that she brought something different to the UK mainstream, and now she’ll be doing the same for our acoustic stage.

    Lucy was the first contestant in the show’s history to score a Top 40 single and album before the live shows even aired with her independently released album Top Room At The Zoo. Her debut major label album, Join The Club, was released on 7 October 2013, reaching number 7 in the UK charts.

    Lucy says she “…can’t wait for people to hear the new stuff, it’s definitely going to be different sound to my other records.” – and neither can we!

  • Karen Harding
    Karen Harding

    Karen Harding is one busy lady. From launching her smash top 10 debut single ‘Say Something’ on Method Records co-written and produced with Grammy-nominated wunderkind MNEK and now certified gold (450,000 UK sales) with over 12 million video views, to featuring on infectious dancefloor slayers from rising UK producers Arches and hitmakers Blonde and TOUGH LOVE Karen has been forging her own path with her stand-out style and sizeable vocal talents.

    Now Harding is back in the UK and heading to the End of Year Ball 2017 hot on the heels of a recent collab with hit Drum and Bass King Wilkinson on their Radio 1 B listed chart hit “Sweet Lies”. With a number of other high profile releases in the pipeline plus her own official new single later this year, now’s the time to catch Karen whilst you can!

  • The Carnabys
    The Carnabys

    Headlining the Secret Garden stage at IOW Festival in 2015 and performing in the iconic Big Tent a year later, The Carnabys are no stranger to big stages. Other headline festivals include Big Feastival, Tunnel to Tunnel as well as Into The Wild and the Bingley Music Festival and now they’re heading to the Indie Stage.

    The band are an explosive, in your face live band: honing their craft in pubs, clubs and venues they have since opened for Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravitz, Black Crowes, Alabama Shakes, supported Blondie (numerous times), Imagine Dragons, Palma Violets, StarSailor and The Corona.

  • Little Nikki
    Little Nikki

    After supporting the likes of Justin Bieber and The Wanted as part of girl group, SoundGirl, Little Nikki released her first debut solo single ‘Intro Intro’ in late 2012. The track caught the attention of everyone from Popjustice to MTV and her potential was quickly realised.

    2013 was a massive year for Little Nikki as she released her second single ‘Little Nikki Says’ which picked up airplay on the likes of Radio 1, 1Xtra, KISS FM and Capital. When she’s not in the studio or on the road, Little Nikki can be found DJ’ing events up and down the country from nightclubs to fashion parties for the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Elite Models… and now to our very own Grand Ballroom.

  • Marc and Abi
    Marc and Abi

    With breath-taking vocals, Marc & Abi will be taking their own twist on some much-loved classics to get your evening started on our acoustic stage. With a career spanning 10 years, Marc and Abi are one of the UK’s best loved duos and are all set to bring their own unique fusion of close harmony, quirky mixes and soaring vocals to #EOYB2017.

  • Affairs

    We always love to see familiar faces returning to the Union and Affairs are no exception! This very special band were formed right here at the University of Hull and now they’re heading back for a reunion none of us will forget. Affairs are a sharply-dressed quintet, who have earned a reputation for their ethereal and theatrical live performances, considered lyrics and synth-based electronic indie. Their music contains is both uniquely modern and nostalgic, as hard hitting synths and sequencers combine with rhythmic guitars and a truly unique vocal creating a sound that has been described as ‘audible chocolate’.

    Comparisons have been drawn to artists such as Foals and Wild Beasts with James Moore – Independent Music describing the band’s sound as “Somewhere in between The Smiths, Joy Division, Interpol, and modern indie rock, Affairs are a very interesting new five-piece from the UK. The word has been spreading fast about this young band with a classy sound” – not bad for some of our very own alumni… we can’t wait to welcome them back!

  • The Stickmen
    The Stickmen

    The Stickmen are one of the top duo dance acts to watch for 2017. As producers, the duo are making a major impact on the UK scene, with 3 DJ City top 10s under their belt and their remixes being played on several of the major UK radio stations.

    Not only are their sets a visual feast, but they are set to combine a live element to their DJ Sets and play parts of the songs live using a drums, light shows and visual effects to add their own unique twist to Grand Ballroom lineup.

  • Joe Dolman
    Joe Dolman

    Fresh from BBC’s Hyde Park stage and The Great Escape Festival, Joe is joining our line up as one of the most exciting musicians on the acoustic scene. The singer-songwriter is poised to release his first EP ‘Learning to Fly’ and will soon be making his debut at the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho later this year, but not until he’s added his own twist on the traditional, with an unforgettable lyrical and melodic style that is quintessentially his.
